Jim Allen, John Anthony and Dave Jones had a very productive meeting on Thursday February 28-2008 with Manatee County Commissioner Joe McClash to discuss the acquisition of a new flying site.
Commissioner McClash made a recommendation of a piece of land off US 41 and suggested that we take a look at it.
I went out and looked at the land and it looks as if it could be used.
During the meeting I explained to Commissioner McClash that we did not have the resources and funds to clear a parcel of land and was there any possibility that the county could help with the clearing of the land he indicated that it could be arranged.

On March 01-08 I receive a call from Jack Reinemeyer, For those of you that may know Jack he owned the electric RC field out in Parish off of St, Road 62. Jack and I discuss the VALKYRIES proposed new flying site and he told me that if we get the use of the land he would buy the Geo-Tech run way material and donate it to the club.

The placement of the runway, taxi-way and sun shelter are not carved in stone it is just what I had in mind, if any one would like to make suggestions or changes please click on the photo and it will take you to a photo without the runway, taxi-way and sun shelter copy the photo and edit any with your ideas and email it to me and I will post it on this page. After all this will be your flying site and everyone should have a say in how it is done.

After receiving many inquires as to how the progress on the new VALKYRIES flying site is going, I decided to post the latest information that I have and here it is.
Jim Allen is trying to get a meeting with Cindy Turner in the Manatee County Parks and Recreation Department to talk to her about the acquiring land to fly on, as of today I have not heard if he has been successful in getting a meeting scheduled.
I will post any new information as soon as I receive it.

Jim Allen called me today and told me that he has not received a date and time for a meeting with Cindy Turner in the Manatee County Parks and Recreation Department. He wanted to let me know that he will be calling her on Monday 03-17-08 to try and setup a meeting.

On Friday 04-19-08 Jim Allen, Jimmy Anderson and Dave Jones met with Len Carswell from the Manatee County Parks and Recreation Department at the old borrow pit in Palmetto.
Len Showed us that the land that the old borrow is on is 10 ft below grade and in the rainy season would be full of water. We asked about filling in part of the pit but Len felt it would be cost prohibitive and that we would be better off looking at other land. Len is looking into two other places and said that he will get back to us by Tuesday.
